Trading Troubles for Teamwork after the Affair

Once the affair is over, it does not mean that life will be filled with  rainbows and butterflies. You will continue having troubles and challenges.

The big difference is that once you survive the affair, you can work on those challenges with your spouse rather than against your spouse.

Facing challenges is always more difficult when your home is divided. Together the two of you’ll have more emotional and mental strength than the two of you had separately.

Facing hardships is never fun, yet the hassles of washing machines, new tires, electric bills, etc. are easier to face than fears about the affairs, communicable diseases, legal problems and loneliness associated with the infidelity. You’d gladly trade the affair troubles for day-to-day hassles any day. It is hard to remember that when you are in the midst of troubles.

The two of you can face and overcome more challenges than the two of you could individually. I am reminded of a card I shared with a best friend years ago that had the phrase ‘It’s you and me against the world’.

It contained a drawing of two people facing a surrounding crowd. On the inside, was the message ‘Do you think they have a chance?‘ .

I always liked the sentiment of that card. I’m reminded of it when helping couples deal with their problems. The two of you together can take on the world.

I’ve seen the potential a couple has when they work together.  That’s why I encourage the both of you to work on preventing affair relapse together. The video, “Preventing Affair Relapse” guides you through the time after the affair, when you need each other in overcoming urges, fears and temptations.

Best Regards,

Jeff
